Burlingame's Lindsell tops U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier
Burlingame senior Dash Lindsell finished with a 36-hole total of 138 at Stanford University to qualify for the US. Junior Amateur Championships to be held July 21-26 at Shoal Creek Country Club near Birmingham, Ala.The morning round started with 96 of the best junior players in the area, as well as some from as far away as Seoul, South Korea. The field was pared to the top 30 for another 18 holes in the afternoon. Lindsell fired an even-par 70 in the morning, leaving him in fifth place with the cut at 75.
For the afternoon round, the tee boxes were moved and one of the par-3s became a par-4, making for a total 71. Lindsell had three birdies on the front nine to card a 33 in the afternoon. He got back to even at the start of the back nine until he arrived at No. 14, where he started a string of four birdies in a row.
He finished with a 3-under 68 to tie Cory McElyea for the medalist honor.
