Daly City man pleads not guilty in rape trial
A Daly City resident pleaded not guilty Thursday in San Mateo County Superior Court to eight counts of rape by force or threat. The 21-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld to protect the privacy of his family, allegedly forced sexual intercourse upon his 13- and 14-year-old sisters multiple times over a three-year period.
Though half of the offenses occurred when he was under the age of 18, he will be prosecuted for all of them as an adult.
"Of the eight counts of rape, four of them occurred when he was a minor," said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. "If someone is 16 or over, we can charge him in adult court if we want to. In this case, we did."
If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces a maximum of 64 years in prison. A trial has been scheduled for Nov. 17.
