Police searching for bank robber

Suspect may have hit four other institutions

Burlingame police are looking for a suspected serial robber who held up a Union Bank Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect walked into the Union Bank at 1187 El Camino Real at about 3:30 p.m., waited in line briefly and demanded money, police said. The robber is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 180 pounds and 45 years old. He was carrying a black duffle bag and was wearing a black baseball hat, long black wig, dark sunglasses and a blue collared shirt.

"He simulated a weapon (by) gesturing towards his pocket or hip," Burlingame police Officer Jay Kiely said. "He was last seen on foot westbound on Murchison Drive going around the corner."

No vehicle was spotted, and he got away with an undisclosed amount of money, Kiely said.

According to police, the robber matched the description of a suspect who held up banks in San Mateo, Redwood City, Los Altos and San Ramon. Burlingame police detectives are contacting law enforcement agencies in the other cities and the FBI, Kiely said.

Anyone with more information about the robbery is asked to contact the Burlingame Police Department at 650-777-4100.
